About two(2) decades ago, a Chilean priest decided to come to Nigeria. For what reason you may ask. To seek holiness, to sanctify, to be sanctified and above all, to be Nigerian. From the crazy city of Lagos to the brown-roofed city of Ibadan and the villages of Ogun, he went wherever the winds blew.
His country was the world and his countrymen, humans.
He made peace with brother death and when it came, he welcomed it with open arms.
Without doubt, he is one of the most beautiful souls to visit earth.
He knew not where he shall meet his fate and for this, he lived every moment as thought it were his last; joyfully and in holiness.
Whether he was having a meal, watching a movie, playing tennis, giving spiritual direction or discussing football, he always wore an infectious smile. He is the only football aficionado who I have seen talk about football with so much passion and an equal calmness.
He drove fast and furiously, was passionate about the football, an amazing tennis player and when he prayed, he did so as one who understood the majesty of whom he was before.
He brought to life sanctity in ordinary life.
He was a priest who perfectly understood the frailty of the human person.
Requiescat in Pace
Lord be gracious to him for all the goodness he has done and in your kindness, grant him peace above.
May we meet when heaven’s crown is won. Hasta la vista querido padre
With love,
A dear friend
