Revenge is an art, you’re my canvas and I am your Picasso

“Revenge is an art, you’re my canvas and I am your Picasso”

The Nigerian millennial is seen as a myopic, self entitled and lazy individual who has had a lot of things handed to him/her on a platter of gold without fully utilising it.

Few days ago, a venerable professor went on his usual rant of how the youths of today are doomed and devoid of focus. In his words, “Where two or more youth are gathered today, football or Big brother is being discussed whereas in my time, we discussed important issues like the state of the nation.

Here was my response, “Your generation is certainly the worst. They have no moral ground to talk. They should shut up and ask God to have mercy on their souls. They enjoyed the oil boom and have nothing to show for it. They keep managing and stealing the wealth of the nation. It is in their generation that billions of Naira was budgeted for COVID-19, a year before the pandemic broke out. It is their generation that stole and keep stealing billions meant for internally displaced persons. It is their generation that entrenched patriarchy. It is their generation that keeps drawing us back by archaic laws and processes. In their generation, we have gotten to see how efficient snakes swallow billions.

We, the millennials, have decided to rise against all odds. We have decided to hope against hope . We decide to start businesses and their generation comes to steal, to kill and to destroy. If we are devoid of morals, it is because they failed to instil it in us.

“Black and Third World people are expected to educate white people as to our humanity. Millennials are expected to explain themselves. The oppressors maintain their position and evade their responsibility for their own actions. There is a constant drain of energy which might be better used in redefining ourselves and devising realistic scenarios for altering the present and constructing the future.”

In the institutions( from primary to tertiary), their generation keep abusing and assaulting us. In the streets, their generation harass us. We are raped financially, mentally, physically and otherwise by their evil generation.

Their generation made sure that we became the poverty capital of the world.

We are not going to be an apologetic generation seeking approval from such generation. We would rise like a Phoenix and take charge of our own destiny. We would keep excelling and we will keep being proud of who we are. We are done being submissive in the name of respect. We will match fire for fire, we would learn from their mistakes and be more humane than they have been.

May the next generation speak kindly of us, as we would of them.
